Terms of Use
Last updated: August 2, 2026
Ritual is made by from81, in Australia. These terms cover the Ritual iPhone app and Ritual Cloud, the optional subscription service at api.ritual.from81.app. By using either, you agree to them. They’re written to be read, not to be skipped — if something here doesn’t seem right, email hello@ritual.from81.app and ask.
The app itself
Ritual is licensed to you, not sold. Because it’s distributed through the App Store, that licence is Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement, which governs your use of the app. These terms sit alongside it and cover the things it doesn’t: our own service, and how we sell what we sell. Where the two genuinely conflict about the app, Apple’s agreement wins.
Free, and the one-time unlock
Ritual is free to use for two habits and thirty tasks. A single one-time purchase, Ritual Premium, removes those limits for good. It is not a subscription: you pay once, and it stays unlocked. It restores on any iPhone signed into the same Apple ID.
The price depends on your App Store storefront and is shown to you before you buy. Apple sells it, charges you for it, and handles refunds — we can’t issue one, but Apple’s refund request page is the place to ask.
Ritual Cloud
Ritual Cloud is a separate, optional subscription that connects your tasks and habits over MCP. Nothing in the app requires it, and your iCloud sync keeps working either way — subscribed or not, signed in or not.
It is an auto-renewing monthly subscription, sold and billed by Apple through your Apple ID. The price for your storefront, and any introductory offer you’re eligible for, are shown in the app before you subscribe. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and it renews at the same price each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. An introductory offer, where one is available, is once per subscription group.
Managing and cancelling is Apple’s, not ours. Use Manage Subscription in Ritual’s settings, or your Apple subscription settings on the device. We can’t cancel a subscription for you, and we can’t refund one — refunds are handled by Apple. Deleting your Ritual Cloud account does not cancel the subscription: cancel it first if you no longer want to be charged.
Using Ritual Cloud means creating an account, with Sign in with Apple. You’re responsible for the MCP clients you connect to it — anything one of them does with your data, once you’ve authorised it, is between you and that client.
Using the service fairly
Don’t use Ritual Cloud or the MCP endpoint to:
- reach any account or data that isn’t yours, or try to;
- attack, probe, overload or disrupt the service, or get around its rate limits, entitlement checks or authentication;
- store or move content that is unlawful, or that you don’t have the right to store;
- resell the service, or run someone else’s product on top of your account;
- drive volumes far beyond what a person managing their own tasks would produce. It is sized for one person’s data.
If an account is doing one of those things we may suspend or close it. Where it isn’t urgent, we’ll email first and give you a chance to fix it.
Your content stays yours
Everything you write in Ritual is yours. While you’re subscribed and signed in, you give us permission to store a copy of it on our server and serve it back to the clients you authorise — that and nothing else. We don’t sell it, mine it, train anything on it, or use it to advertise to you. What is stored, and for how long, is set out in the privacy policy.
You can delete your Ritual Cloud account from inside the app at any time. That permanently removes your account and every copy of your data on our server. Your data on your device and in your own iCloud is untouched. One thing survives on purpose: if Apple has told us a subscription was refunded or revoked, we keep that App Store transaction identifier and the date so the same purchase can’t be reused. It carries no link to you or your data — the privacy policy says the same.
Changes to the service
Ritual is actively developed: features change, and occasionally one is removed. If we ever have to discontinue Ritual Cloud, we’ll give notice in the app and by email with enough time to export or move on, and we’ll stop taking renewals before we stop the service.
No warranty
Ritual and Ritual Cloud are provided “as is”. We work hard on them, but we don’t promise the app or the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that they’ll suit any particular purpose of yours. Ritual Cloud is a mirror of your data, not a backup service — keep iCloud sync on, and don’t treat our server as your only copy.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything arising out of your use of Ritual, and our total liability is limited to the amount paid for the app or the subscription in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here excludes or limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under any other law that can’t be excluded by agreement. If a term here conflicts with such a law, that law wins and the rest of these terms still stand.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you deal with us as a consumer somewhere else, this doesn’t take away the protections of your own country’s law.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we’ll update the date at the top and post the new version here. If a change materially affects an active Ritual Cloud subscription, we’ll say so in the app before it takes effect.
